In this segment of Trails West Magazine’s 48-Hour Road Trip our journey begins in Scottsbluff, where we uncover the town’s unique charm. From there, we venture to Bayard, home of the awe-inspiring Chimney Rock National Historic Site. Along the way, we make a stop at Bobbi Jo’s Branding Iron and the Vault Coffee and Community Mercantile, immersing ourselves in the local culture.
Continuing our expedition, we arrive in Bridgeport, Nebraska, where we encounter the renowned 385 Meat Market. This down-home country store and butcher shop have gained a well-deserved reputation throughout western Nebraska.
Next, we head to Alliance, witnessing the extraordinary Carhenge and visiting the incredibly inventive and enchanting Dead Unicorn Society. Prepare for a unique experience where the macabre intertwines with witchery and endless fun.
Our journey continues to Hemmingford, Chadron, Crawford, and the mesmerizing Agate Fossil Beds. We then make our way to Mitchell before finally reaching Gering, Nebraska. Here, we explore antique stores and enjoy a comfortable stay at one of the most pleasant hotels in western Nebraska, rejuvenating ourselves for the next chapter of our adventure as we set off to South Dakota.
